Salt Lake City, Utah-Beloved eternal companion, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Janet Marie Rodberg Drecksel returned to her heavenly home and was reunited with her eternal companion Walter Norman Drecksel on August 5, 2014. It is impossible to imagine a more loyal, and supportive companion.
Janet was born in Tacoma, Washington on January 04, 1928 to George Kooyman and Minerva O. Jensen. She was a devoted and cherished daughter and sister. She attended Salt Lake City schools and graduated from West High School. In her youth, she was proficient in academics and athletics. Janet developed many cherished friendships and met her future husband, Walter Norman Drecksel. Janet and Norm were married on May 24, 1946; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Janet established a loving home to which her and Norm welcomed six children: Sherrie, Cynthia, Vicki (Craig Pearson), Diane, Chad, and Debbie Ann. She received great joy from her twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Betty, Ida, and Barbara. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dick.
Janet faithfully served in many church callings; she especially loved working in the primary and young women's. She also devoted constant service through long years of association to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Janet was always there to support the growth of their family.
With their children and extended family, Janet and Norm enjoyed family activities in the back yard at family holiday gatherings and created so many memorable times together…playing and facilitating games such as "Mother May I" and, "Red Light, Green Light". Janet loved to travel and spend her vacations with loved ones. She was never at loss for shopping… "Wednesday's Forever", but always thought of others first and what they might need to shower her love on the family she cherished. Anyone who visited their home never left with an empty stomach. Whether it was a meal or treat from the cupboard, she always made sure she gave you something.
We love you dear Janet, dear mother, dear grandmother.
Family graveside services will be held Saturday, August 9, at 12:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave \"N\" Street. Friends may call Friday, August 8, from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple.
