Donna Cleo Mickelson Shaw

1923 ~ 2014

Donna Cleo Mickelson Shaw, 91, beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away of causes incident to age on August 26, 2014. Donna was the daughter of John Henry and Elva Christina Larsen Mickelson of Logan, Utah. She was raised in Logan along with her siblings, Cora, Reed and Jacqueline. She graduated from Logan High School and attended USU. On October 10, 1947 she married the love of her life and constant companion, George Merrill Shaw in the Logan LDS Temple. The pride of her life were her three daughters: Bonnie, Paula, and Deborah; Donna loved being a mother.

Donna was a friendly and very social person who had many friends throughout her life, especially enjoying the 24 years (1987 to 2011) she lived at Terrace Falls Condominiums in Salt Lake City. She was a hard worker and extremely creative home decorator, gardener, and seamstress, with excellent taste in flowers, fashion, furnishings, food, friends, and just about everything else. She was known for her amazing rose gardens, floral wreaths, silk flower arrangements, and gorgeous Christmas trees.

For many years she worked as a medical receptionists for several doctors in Logan and as a clerk at the USU Credit Union. She was active in the LDS church serving in a variety of positions. After they retired, Donna and Merrill worked for two years as officiators in the Logan LDS Temple, an assignment they dearly loved.

Donna was an avid sports fan and never missed a Utah Jazz game or tennis match on TV. One of the big moments of her life was when she met Karl Malone in a local restaurant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jackie, and her husband, Merrill. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie, Paula and Deb Shaw; her brother, Reed (Marilyn) Mickelson; her sister, Cora Thorell; her sister-in-law, Elaine Shaw; brother-in-law, Lynn Spindler, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She lived the last three years of her life at Emeritus Care Center, where she had some special friends among the residents and staff. A special thank you to her friend Ned; care staff: Matt, Hannah, Debbie, Susan, Gloria, Melanie, Rebecca, Katerina and Kip; and to Dr. Carole Baraldi for helping her through her final, difficult days.

A viewing with be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 So., on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 beginning at 11:00 am immediately followed by a graveside service at noon.
