Melba Stephenson Hanseen

1925 ~ 2018

Melba Stephenson Hanseen died unexpectedly but peacefully at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 4, 2018. She was 92.

Melba was born August 5, 1925 along with her twin sister Mildred (Milly) to Byron and Flossie Stephenson in Holden, Utah. The twins were the youngest of Byron and Flossie's four children. While attending Utah State University she married Robert Blaine Hanseen of Scipio, Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 19, 1946. Together they raised three children in Pasadena, California then retired to Laguna Niguel, California. They moved to Salt Lake City in 2015 to be near family where Robert died the following year at the age of 95.

After Robert was gone, Melba missed him greatly and longed to be with him again. This made her sudden and painless passing a blessing for both of them. She will be remembered for her selfless dedication to him and their children. She is survived by her three children Jill Zundel (C. Michael), Jane Pugh (Donald) and, Ross Hanseen (Jennifer), her 14 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.

Melba was the valedictorian of her graduating class and a dedicated life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was especially known for her abilities as an exceptional speaker and teacher. She served in many volunteer and leadership capacities in both her church and community throughout her long life.

Melba was a lovely woman. She was refined and stylish and gracious to everyone she met. Always a loyal friend to those privileged enough to know her well. Above all she was a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: (Homer, Glade, and Milly) and their spouses, as well as her beloved husband, Bob.

As per her wishes, a family graveside service will be held in her honor at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Utah prior to her interment next to her eternal companion on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
