Naomi Oveson Cox, age 103, died peacefully September 6, 2019, in her sunshine room at the home of her grandchildren, Kelly and Matt Fraughton, in Levan, Utah. She was born April 13, 1916, in Cleveland, Utah to Clarence D. Oveson and Anna Johanna Johnson Oveson, the fourth of nine children.
She married her beloved eternal companion, C. Dean Cox, on December 3, 1937 in Uintah County, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints on March 30, 1944. They were blessed with 3 children, Dale C. Cox (Ottiena Bos, deceased), Dorine C. Goodro (Robert), and Nedine Mitchell, 10 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Dean and Naomi began their married life in LaPoint, Utah and later moved to Mt. Emmons where Naomi worked in the school lunch and Dean ran the power plant and later managed Moon Lake Electric. In 1947 they moved to Crescent (Sandy), Utah, where Naomi was a tailor at The Paris department store for many years, as well as worked raising chickens, cattle, and horses with Dean. After retiring they moved to their farm in Lake Shore, Utah where they lived for many years. After the death of her beloved companion, Dean, Naomi moved to West Jordan with her daughter, Nedine, and granddaughter, Valorie, making many friends with neighbors and ward members.
She loved the Lord and happily filled many ward and temple callings. In her late 80\s she was ward librarian and helped with the bulletin. She was a favorite neighbor to many and willingly helped anyone in need.
Naomi will be greatly missed. Her smile, stories, singing, laughter, optimism, and testimony will forever be in our hearts. What a wonderful reunion there was as she rejoined her beloved family who had gone before. What wonderful memories we have of her breaking into song or telling a story and then with a twinkle in her eye say, "Do you believe that?" and laugh.
Surviving Naomi are her children, 10 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, a sister, Marie Oveson Oviatt, and sister-in-law, Ralene Cramer Oveson, both of Cleveland, Utah. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents,Clarence and Hannah Oveson, brothers Conrad, Alonzo, and Ellis C. Oveson; sisters Leola O. Guyman, Margaret O. Drossis, Claudia O. Draper, Valera O. Otteson, daughter-in-law Otienna Bos Cox, great-grandson Clint J. Wall, great-grandson Jeremy Goodro-Moulin, and 7 sisters-in-law and 5 brothers-in-law. She had many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart.
The family is so grateful for all those who cared for Naomi. For the 13 years of wonderful care that granddaughter Valorie and daughter Nedi gave her while she lived with them, daughter Dodi and husband, Bob, Granddaughter Kelly and her husband, Matt; granddaughters Kim Kapp and Donna Dwyer; Cassi Richmond, a special friend and skilled caretaker/day brightener and little Hadley who would run in and say "Hi, Brama, I hep." and all those at CVMC Home Health Care and Hospice who so kindly and efficiently managed all of her needs. Because of all the wonderful care she received she was able to enjoy some of Kelly's delicious baked potato soup ("Mmm, that's good." she said.) and had a drink (to wet her whistle) and went to sleep. What a wonderful blessing to have been part of her life. We can honestly say, "Having been born of goodly parents".
Naomi's funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Larkin Mortuary Sunset Gardens at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy. Family and friends may visit with the family there beginning at 9:30 am. Services will be followed by interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens. Following interment everyone is invited to share memories at a lunch at Bell Canyon Park pavilion, 11400 S 1700 E, just a few blocks south of Sunset Gardens.
