Kim Hardy Briggs

1951 ~ 2015

Kim Hardy Briggs passed away peacefully in his Salt Lake City home on the morning of April 21, 2015. Over the past year he courageously battled pancreatic cancer, which took his life at the age of 63.

Kim was born in Salt Lake City on September 6, 1951 to Don and Arlyne Briggs. He graduated from both Olympus High School and the University of Utah. He also served an LDS mission in the Japan Central Mission from 1970-1972.

Following his mission, Kim met Vicki Nilson on a blind date and Kim quickly realized that persistence was his only chance of winning her over. On August 5, 1975 Kim and Vicki were married in the Salt Lake Temple and they cherished forty years of marriage. Together they raised three wonderful sons.

During their early years together Kim attended the MBA program at BYU after which he worked in commercial real estate taking his family from Sandy, Utah to San Antonio, Texas and later to Memphis, Tennessee. In 1990 Kim changed professions and moved his family to Salt Lake City where he worked in insurance for Marshand McLennan (formerly Johnson and Higgins), and served as office head for 21 years, enjoying many meaningful relationships with clients and colleagues along the way.

Kim was a loving husband, kind father, attentive grandfather, and a great friend. He was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his baby grandson George. Kim loved life and traveled the world with his beautiful companion Vicki. He enjoyed reading historical biographies, cycling anywhere and everywhere with his PCR buddies, fishing on the Green River, and golfing (depending on the day). Kim was thoughtful, cheerful, and never took himself too seriously. He was often asked for his sage advice and mentored many colleagues, neighbors, and family members in career, education, and other life decisions. Kim leaves a lasting impression on the hearts of everyone who knew him and he will be missed!

Kim was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in the Salt Lake Temple, in multiple bishoprics and Young Men's presidencies, and as the Bishop of the Parley's Seventh Ward. Most recently, he enjoyed leading discussions in his High Priest Group among close friends and singing in the ward choir. He had an unwavering testimony of the Atonement and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Kim is survived by his wife (Vicki); three sons Tyler (Holly), Eric (Jamie), and Jordan (Carly); three grandchildren (Logan, Maddy, and George); brother (Kerry); and sister (Brenda). He is preceded in death by his father (Don), mother (Arlyne), and three brothers (Graydon, Jeff, and David).

A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 26th from 6-8 p.m. at the Parley's First Ward building located at 2350 S. 2100 E. The funeral will take place at noon on Monday, April 27th at the same location with a viewing before from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Lawn located at 2350 E. 1300 S.In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic at LDS Hospital in memory of Kim Briggs through Intermountain Research and Medical Foundation at 8th Avenue and C Street; Salt Lake City, UT 84143; (801) 408-1775.

Guestbook/Condolences

On an impression born of the Spirit I today decided to do a Google search for one of my most loved missionary companions while we served together in the Japan Central Mission. And today, on April 2, 2023, I found my dear Kim whom I had lost track of after our mission. Reading his obituary, I fondly remember him and feel that we have now been reunited. Kim was a kind, friendly, and dear friend who I loved very much! Together we experienced great joy as we served our mission in Japan. I realize I am writing this some 8 years after Kim’s passing but felt impressed to do so anyway. Dear Kim, God bless you and your family! I love you.! Til we meet again. John Kunz.
