Mildred Berrett Garrett

1932 ~ 2016

Mickie was born September 4, 1932, to Herbert Orson and Emily Elizabeth Berrett of Draper, Utah. She transcended the bonds of mortality January 25th, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. What a glorious reunion she must now be having with the love of her life O\Brien and so many others who have waited for her return.

A proud Draper farm girl it made her sad to watch time encroach on the rural farming community of her childhood. During World War II with her older brothers serving in the Pacific and her older sister ill, much of the work around the farm fell to her and her younger brother Enniss. Many a morning she was up before the sun tending to the animals. She graduated from Jordan High school in 1950 and attended Brigham Young University. On September 14, 1955 she married O'Brien Garrett in the Salt Lake City temple.

An accomplished pianist and singer, her life was filled with music. She began performing when she was three years old and didn't stop until her body betrayed her. Unconstrained now by those limitations she adds her joyous and heartfelt voice to the heavenly choir. She loved language and would often challenge family with words and wordplay. She was a gifted poet; her poems comforted friends in need, and her wit and humor lifted hearts with laughter. She served many church callings during her lifetime; work that she loved. No doubt this work continues with her husband now at her side.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Willis, Ross, Lynn, Ralph, her sister Norma, her husband O\Brien and her great grandson Kaleb. She is survived by her brother Enniss (Helen), her five children; Scott (Anne), Kevin (Lisa Ann), Lisa Talbot (Dennis), Jeffery, Lori Clark (Doug); 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Mickie had a big heart and a tender spot for all animals, especially her many dogs. She asks that in lieu of flowers you make a donation in her name to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or the Utah Humane Society.

The family would like to give special thanks to Colleen with Legacy Health Care and also the entire staff at Spring Creek Health Care for lovingly looking after Mom in her final weeks.
