Verl Anderson Despain

1919 ~ 2018

Verl Anderson Despain, 98, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2018. He was born April 16, 1919 in Fountain Green, Utah to Charles L. and Lorinda A. Despain. He grew up in Axtell, Utah and later graduated from LDS Business College. He served faithfully in the North Central States Mission and was proud of his service in the navy during WWII. He attended BYU where he met Barbara Fullmer. They were married May 4, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple and had 64 wonderful years together.

Verl was a very active member of the LDS church. He served in many callings throughout his life but none more cherished than the 15 years he and Barbara served in the Salt Lake Temple.

From a young age he learned the value of hard work. He worked as an accountant for the Post Office for 30 years. He had a passion for cars, gardening, building things, and keeping his home and cars in tip top shape.

He raised a great family who deeply loved him and will truly miss him.

He is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters; Gary F. (Kay) Despain, Lynn V. (MaryJane) Despain, Karen (Bob) Byard, Janet (Ron) Jones, son-in-law Stewart (Kim) Hewlett, 22 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his precious wife, Barbara, daughter, Kathryn Hewlett, three brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 12 noon in the Eastridge 7th Ward, 1020 E. Sunburn Lane (11600 So), Sandy, UT with a viewing 1 hour prior. A viewing will also be held for friends and family on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 So), Sandy, UT. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
