Elizabeth Ann Simpson

1942 ~ 2018

Elizabeth Ann Horton Thomas Simpson, 75, passed away on July 10, 2018 in Provo, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice Elizabeth Boutwell and Thomas Melvin Horton I ("Buck"), brother, Thomas Melvin Horton II ("Tommy"), husband, Morris Ashton Thomas II ("Marty"), and her son Morris Ashton Thomas III ("Morey").

She was born on December 3rd, 1942 in Birmingham, AL. Ann was very proud of her membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Born during World War II, she was delivered in a hospital during a military blackout due to fears of an attack from an opposing military. In high school, she was crowned runner-up Miss Junior Miss Alabama and appeared in several commercials including for Tab soda. After graduating from high school, Ann attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority and on the drill team. Later she worked as a flight attendant for Delta. She met and married Marty Thomas in Atlanta, GA in 1968. They raised their family of five children in Charlotte, NC, Birmingham, AL, Provo, UT where they were blessed to make many wonderful friends. While living in Charlotte in 1978, Marty and Ann were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith in Jesus Christ and His restored Gospel were anchors throughout her life. Ann was very proud of having gone back to school in her later years and completing her university education. She graduated from the University of Utah in May 2009 with a BS degree in Human Development and Family Studies. She married Bill L Simpson in Albuquerque, NM in 2009.

She is survived by her husband, Bill L Simpson (Lehi, UT); son, Douglas Edward Thomas ((Albuquerque, NM) (Dora) and (Hunter, Hayden, Harrison, Hailey and Harper)) daughter, Alison Elizabeth Castro ((Draper, UT) (Cristian) and (Ashley, Cristian, Mateo, Mia and Alexa)), Megan Kathleen Woodruff ((Rio Rancho, NM) (Andrew) and (Noah, Hannah, Leah)), and Lauren Maureen Guenther ((Salt Lake City, UT) (Corey)).

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 12 noon at Larkin Mortuary (260 E South Temple, SLC). Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:45 am. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
