Gerald Navar Thayne

1932 ~ 2016

Gerald Navar Thayne, age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and daughters on January 24, 2016 in Millcreek, Utah. Gerald was born in Mountain Home, Utah on August 5, 1932 to Thomas Thayne and Lacy Minnie Farnsworth. He grew up in Mountain Home with his 10 other siblings. He met the love if his life, Reona Withers, in Midvale, Utah in 1956. They fell in love and were married later that same year. Their union was sealed in the Logan temple in 1963.

Gerald served his country in the Army prior to meeting Reona. He loved to go camping and visiting other family members at the spur of the moment and was always dragging his wife and kids along on a new adventure. He was a member of the LDS church and worked in the Vernal Temple for as long as he physically could. He loved snowmobiling, fishing, chasing deer, wood working, operating heavy equipment, riding horses and took joy in spending time with his various animals.

He tried several different career paths over his life including farming, milking cows, delivery man for a gas company and construction where he was both an equipment and plant operator. He traveled all over Utah, Arizona and Nevada in the course of his 30 plus years with Concrete Products Company.

Gerald was a gentle man who loved to talk with anyone and everyone. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the one in the family who everyone went to for help and support.

Gerald is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Reona Withers Thayne, 3 children: Sharon Stanley (Toby) of Herriman Utah, Sheila Petersen (Max) of Kingman Arizona, Deona Thayne of Mountain Home Utah, his sister Audrey Crane (Warlough) of South Jordan Utah, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 5 sisters, and 2 sons: Robert and Gerry.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 at 11 AM at Larkin Mortuary Riverton, 3688 W. 12600 S. Viewings will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28 from 6-8 PM and on Friday from 9:30-10:30 AM, both at the mortuary.
