Dorothy Ann Mitchell Giroux Luing

1936 ~ 2018

Dorothy Ann Mitchell Giroux Luing passed away early Wednesday evening at home in the company of her grandson following a long, and at times painful, struggle with various health conditions, most recently cancer. Her last day with us was a happy one, spent in the company of her children and grandchildren (and their dogs), enjoying a hearty lunch of clam chowder from Market Street (one of her favorites), snacking on French macarons, and, of course, folding laundry.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dorothy was looking forward to taking the next step in her spiritual journey, ready to leave behind the physical pain of her corporeal life. She is now in a better place, watching over us from "her own little personal cloud that she will use to zip around heaven." We fully expect her to, as promised, be "waiting for us at those pearly gates" when it's our turn to follow.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband, and fellow adventurer, Harry, who preceded her in death in 2010. Additionally, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her beloved brothers Joe, Gordon, and Alan Mitchell; by her two sons, David—and his wife Rosemary—and Jeff—and his wife Linda—Giroux; her stepchildren Craig—and his wife Karla—Luing, Kevin—and his wife Liz—Luing, and Debra Ludlow; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews (and their dogs).

Dorothy will always be remembered by those closest to her for her kindness and generosity. She would do, and did, anything for anyone at the drop of a hat, without question. She was friendly and outgoing, and loved everyone without condition. She had a remarkable ability to forgive, and an unrivaled capacity to love. Her warmth will be missed, but everyone who knew her was fortunate, and better for having done so.

A brief viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Larkin Sunset Gardens at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., followed by, in accordance with her wishes, a short graveside service—also at Larkin Sunset Gardens—starting at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow for family and friends at a time and location to be announced at Dorothy's graveside service.
