Darwin Edgar Veteto

1923 ~ 2015

Darwin passed away Jan. 17, 2015 in Sandy, Utah. He was born Nov. 12, 1923 in Honeyville, Utah to Edgar Franklin and Louisa Venetta Madsen Veteto. He attended Honeyville Elementary and Box Elder Jr. High School. In his early teens the family moved to Oregon where he graduated from Gervais Union High School as an outstanding athlete. He attended Willamette and BYU Universities before his induction into the US Army Infantry during WWII serving in the European Theatre. During the Battle of the Bulge, he received the Purple Heart.

On Aug. 7, 1946 he married Edith Stark in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with 4 children who were reared in Orem, UT. He was employed by US Steel as a first helper in the Open Hearth for 40 years. Darwin was an active member of the LDS Church holding many callings including counselor in the bishopric, and as a member of the stake high council. He and Edith served in 6 different temples as ordinance workers and as full-time missionaries in the Hawaii, Denver and Johannesburg, South Africa Temples (in the latter he was called to the temple presidency and as a sealer).

Darwin was an avid reader, a BYU Sports fan and loved to play golf. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always very kind. He was devoted to his family and was dearly loved by them.

Survived by his wife and children, Ann (Neil) Collins, Gayla, Mark (Debbie), and Camille (Kerry) Spendlove; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; brothers, Blaine (Patty), LaVell (Barbara); Preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dorothy Wall and brothers Farrell and Cleve.

Funeral services will be held Sat., Jan. 24, 2015 at 11am in the Crescent South 16th Ward, 275 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:45am. Interment to follow in the Orem City Cemetery. Online condolences at www.larkincares.com
