Darlene James Evans

1927 ~ 2014

Our beloved mother and grandmother Darlene James Evans died peacefully on December 17, 2014 in Mesa, Arizona, at age 87.

Born December 10, 1927, she cherished growing up in Salt Lake City with five sisters, later graduated from the University of Utah in elementary education, and taught school for several years. She served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and married Ralph W. Evans Jr. in 1950. Darlene was a faithful member of the LDS Church all her life, and blessed the lives of many with her bright and independent spirit, serving as a teacher and leader in many capacities. She loved reading, playing the piano, drawing, and as a Daughter of Utah Pioneers and museum docent she passed on her love and excitement of history to many, including her 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children: Kathy (Mark), Julie (Hanno), Mark, Scott (Emily), David (Antje); her sisters: Betty, Connie (Howard) and JoAne (Jim).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, at the University Ward Chapel, 160 S University Street, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84102. Friends may call at 10am prior to services.

Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
