Julie Ann Jacoby

1945 ~ 2016

Julie Ann Jacoby, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died Sunday, November 6, 2016 due to complications of respiratory illness. Julie was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on September 1, 1945, to Agnes and Bernard (Jake) Jacoby.

Julie was as tough as they come. From early on in life, she struggled with a number of health issues. Julie spent four years of her youth at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downing, California, being helped for polio and respiratory issues. She spent several months there in an iron lung and needed the use of a respirator most of her life due to her diminished lung capacity. Julie also received spinal fusion surgery at Rancho Los Amigos, as well as a tracheostomy to help her breathing. Julie kept in touch with other people with polio through the Historic Polio Society. The fact that she was as mobile and active as she was is testimony to her strength.

Julie's great joy was in socializing with friends. She may have referred to herself as "Gabby Gerty," but friends enjoyed listening to her stories. Julie particularly loved sitting in her living room surrounded by children. She was very happy just sitting and listening to their questions and anecdotes. Julie also loved working in her garden (especially with kids) and sharing her produce. Julie will be greatly missed.

Julie is survived by her brother, Jerry, her sister, Betty Jo, her daughter, Erica, and Erica's two sons. A viewing will be held Thursday at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary (2350 E. 1300 S.) from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at11:00onFriday, November 11, 2016at St. Ambrose Church (2315 E. Redondo Ave).
