Darrell Sigvart Jensen passed away peacefully from age-related infirmities on October 20, 2015. "Grandpa J." or "Uncle Darrell" was loved by all who knew him and he will be missed.
Darrell was born in Salt Lake City, the son of Elmer Sigvart Jensen and Agnes Clara Hunter on August 28, 1935. He graduated from South High School. He married Marlene Stoney in 1953 and raised four children in their Holladay home. They were later divorced.
Darrell was a career grocer and retired from Safeway Stores, Inc. last working position of Office Services Manager, Darrell finished his career working at Marketing Specialists. The passion of his life was the Special Forces of Utah National Guard. He retired in 1990 bearing the rank of Command Sargent Major, one of just a few such rank in the U.S. military. He was a decorated jump master and trained all over the world. He spent much of his retirement honoring his fallen comrades.
Darrell is survived by his sons Larry (Kathleen) Jensen and Rick (Karen) Jensen and daughter Wendy (Barb Timper) Jensen, his brothers; Ray Jensen, Harold (Marva) Jensen and sisters Lynda (Chuck) Hand and Gayle (Gawain) Wells, ten grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his son Darin who passed away in 1996.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 11:00am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell (10600 S) in Sandy. Burial will follow in Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
