Frank Smith McDonald

1923 ~ 2016

Frank Smith McDonald, 93, died June 25, 2016 in Salt Lake City. He was born April 19, 1923 to Farquhar and Luella Smith McDonald. He was married twice and had children.

Frank was a loyal friend. He was also structured, ordered, and had an attention for detail. He was quiet, reserved, and had a yearning for simplicity. Frank was handsome and well-mannered with a genuine humility and with great ease accepted others in full measure. People were inspired by his example of self-mastery and authentic character.

The military provided the opportunity to travel extensively. Over and over again, his life was "spared" by the hand of God during his WWII service. His time in the military seemed to create a broader interest in world events and spurred on extensive travel later in his life.

He worked for Enoch Smith, his grandfather, at Enoch Smith and Sons Construction for over 55 years. He demonstrated loyalty, hard work, harmony, and self-reliance. He was conscientious to his obligations and was meticulously honest.

Frank was inherently spiritual and respectful of deity. He had a legacy of Scottish pioneers who walked barefoot to the Salt Lake Valley in search of Zion while seeking truth and the love of God. Their legacy had a heart felt conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were instrumental in building the Salt Lake Temple.

Frank had a lifetime of remarkable good health where he enjoyed tennis, swimming, golf, and skiing. He was the President of the Salt Lake City Ski Club. He also started ski races for the Olympic skiers. In the last weeks of his life, he experienced extraordinary pain and suffering. He has now been welcomed home, in the peace and love of the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 12 noon at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where a viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
