Michael Von Openshaw

1951 ~ 2013

Our beloved son, brother, husband, uncle and friend passed away on July 26, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 62 from lung cancer associated with agent orange exposure in Vietnam.

Michael was born on January 2, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Glade LaVon and Margret Trujillo Openshaw. He was loved by his sisters: Kristine Beckwith (Don), Kathy Openshaw, Marsha Openshaw and Margo Wikstrom (Steve) and all his nieces and nephews.

Michael married Ethel M. Carter on October 10, 1991. He was a step-father and step-grandfather to Ethel's children: Scott Kirkwood, Kelly Mecham (Mike), Michelle Jones (Matt) and 6 grandchildren.

He worked for Flying-J refinery for 38 years and was Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army between the years of 1970 and 1972.

Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, and his father, Glade LaVon Openshaw.

One of his greatest passions was the love of animals; Michael always had dogs, snakes, fish, turtles, birds, frogs and various reptiles.

Funeral services for Michael will be held on Tuesday July 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, UT, where a visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
