Shirley Rae Peterson Archer

1921 ~ 2014

Shirley Rae Peterson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 18, 1921 to Frank Edward and Margaret Burns Peterson. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side the early morning of September 28, 2014 at the age of 93. Her husband of 74 years, Frank Callister Archer "Arch", preceded her in death by only three weeks on September 2, 2014. Together for so long, even a temporary separation was too hard to bear.

Shirley graduated from East High School and attended the U of U. Shirley and Arch were married on August 28, 1942 making her a lifelong Army wife. She and Arch were stationed throughout the country until his retirement in 1962. She was a school secretary for Morningside, Meadow Moor and Twin Peaks elementary schools in Granite School District and retired in 1985. Having an affinity and love for the children at these various schools brought her both joy and entertainment. She took care of them when they were sick, counseled them when they misbehaved, laughed with them at their antics, and hugged them when they were hurt or sad.

Traveling was their primary recreational activity enjoying numerous trips to Yellowstone, golfing in Elko, Nevada, and relaxing in Maui, Hawaii. Visiting with their children and grandchildren in Salt Lake City and Denver, Colorado brought them constant joy.

Shirley is survived by her children, Margaret, Frank (Robyn), and David (Donna), grandchildren; Michael, Kelly and Jason, Stephanie and Alex, Ryan and Clint along with 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Shirley's family will forever appreciate her caregivers and loving staff at The Wentworth at Willow Creek and Inspiration Hospice.

A private service for the family will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity close to your heart. Please leave online condolences for the family at www.larkinmortuary.com.
