David E. Koehler Sr.

1946 ~ 2017

David E. Koehler Sr., our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, passed away suddenly at his home in Cottonwood Heights on November 4, 2017. Dave was born to Betty and Hans Koehler October 22, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Granite High School in 1965 and served in the Utah Army Reserve for 15 years. He has been married to his sweetheart, Carolyn Sloan Koehler for 50 years. They have two children, David Jr. and Denise. He was later blessed with 3 grandchildren, Dave III, Heather and Josie. Dave Retired from Salt Lake City Corp as a water treatment plant operator, working at both Mountain Dell and Big Cottonwood plants. His passion in life was restoring vintage cars and being part of all things related to cars. He served as president of Wasatch Chevys, and was a life member and Man of the Year in Utah Salt Flats Racing Association. Dave was given the prestigious award from the Southern California Timing Association as a member of the "200 MPH Club". Being a prostate cancer survivor, he started a car show, "Cruisin for a Cure" in Utah to raise money for research in early detection and cure for prostate cancer. He also lobbied in Washington DC to ask for grants for prostate cancer research. Dave never met a stranger, making friends where ever he would go.

Dave is survived by his wife, children, David E. Koehler Jr. (Wendy) and Denise Walton, grandchildren, brother Lynn Koehler (Sara), sister Susan Kojima (Scotty) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on November 9, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Calvary Chapel, 460 West Century Drive (4350 South), Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy. In honor of Dave, please wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
