Norma Mae Dyer

1924 ~ 2016

A tiny but mighty spirit and full of fire, Mom/Nana/Norma was one of a kind. Norma Mae Dyer, 91, passed away on September 24, 2016 in Sandy, Utah. She was born October 1, 1924 in Reading, Pennsylvania to Clifton Pursel and C. Helen Bowers. She married Buford Edgar Dyer in 1945 in Reading, Pennsylvania.

She was tiny, but strong-willed and had a big heart. She enjoyed always advocating for the underdog. She founded and presided over two different labor unions while working in administration for the Reading School District. She worked there for over 30 years. She also worked nights for the local fire company for many years and was an expert seamstress. She was always active in politics, again advocating for others. She enjoyed gardening, music and good food and the company of others. Most of all, she loved her beloved dogs. She followed her only daughter (Sherry) to Utah in 1983. She followed her church and found a new spiritual home in Utah at Hilltop United Methodist Church. Hilltop became her second home. She was part of the Ada Circle, United Methodist Women and various committees. She expressed her love of music by also being part of Hilltop's famous Silver Songbirds choir. As a singer in a choir, it is thought that all voices come together as one, but, everyone heard Norma! Nana, you were our family anchor. We miss you and love you, even though we know you will always be with us.

Norma is survived by her daughter Sherry Wallick (Michel), four grandchildren; Tiffani Moser (Bruce), Kimberli Glass (David), Stacey Moser (Brian), and Brent Moser (Sasha), eight great grandchildren; Jacqueline, Nicholas, Izabel, Nolan, Shylo, Brexen, Karli, and Taran, and one great-great grandchild; Oliver.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hilltop United Methodist Church, 985 East 10600 South in Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.larkincares.com
