Brian Stewart Mitchell, 73, passed away January 16, 2018 in Murray, Utah. Born to Ansdell Leonard Mitchell and Gertrude Ethella Stewart Mitchell on June 25, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Married his sweetheart, Judy Ann Averett Mitchell, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Brian loved to travel. He developed a passion for new places as he was being transferred across the country and Germany while in the Air Force. He fed his passion with trips to see his getting married and graduating and to see various grandchildren being blessed, baptized, given the priesthood, and graduating. As his grandchildren became adults he talked about needing to add in seeing grandchildren being married. Brian also loved telling stories about his life to his grandchildren. Some of his favorites were when he was picked up by a small tornado as a young boy and breaking his arm when he was dropped. Another was when he was walking in the foothills of Centerville and came across a cougar. Brian loved looking at the topography of places because of his interest in geology. This developed into a love of disasters and why they happened. He also loved to see if he could figure out how to mitigate the damage that occurred in a disaster and letting his family know how to prepared and safe. As you can tell Brian\s greatest joy was his family. He loved it when they would call and ask his advise on things. He was so proud of his wife, his sons, his daughters, and his grandchildren.
Survived by his loving wife: Judy Ann Averett Mitchell. His seven children: Adena Mitchell, Trevor Mitchell, Carissa Chacon, Sabin Harshberger, Curran Mitchell, Brandon Mitchell, and Teran Mitchell. Five daughters-in-law: Leah Olson married to Trevor, Carolina Rosales married to Curran, and Michelle Jeffrey married to Teran. Two sons-in-law: Benjamin Chacon married to Carissa and Paul Harshberger married to Sabin.His 22 grandchildren: Daniel Van Campen and Courtney Perks (Adena); Jeffrey Mitchell, Collin Mitchell, Brayden Mitchell, and Ginny Mitchell (Trevor and Leah); Meghan Chacon, Rhyen Chacon, and Dahlyn Chacon (Carissa and Ben); Quincy Harshberger, Zechariah Harshberger, Gabriela Harshberger, Nathanial Harshberger, and Felicity Harshberger (Sabin and Paul); Lilliana Mitchell, Noah Mitchell, and Amelia Mitchell (Curran and Carol); Kendall Mitchell, Britton Mitchell, Corinne Mitchell, Thayne Mitchell, and Tabitha Mitchell (Teran and Michelle). His two sisters: Ethelle \"Susie\" Mitchell Tasso and Laurel Mitchell Marcroft and his sister-in-law Margo Mitchell.
Preceded in death by his father Ansdell Leonard Mitchell. His mother Gertrude Ethella Stewart Mitchell. His brother Val Mitchell.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 12 noon at the Centerville City Cemetery, 650 East 400 South, Centerville, Utah. Friends may call Saturday prior to services from 10:00 a.m. ‚ 10:45 a.m. at the Bennion 19th Stake Center, 6250 S. 2200 W. Taylorsville, Utah. Interment at Centerville City Cemetery.
