Jolayne Robbins Bowen

1926 ~ 2014

After enjoying a bowl of ice cream and during an afternoon nap Jo passed away peacefully on May 30, 2014. She was born on March 26, 1926 in Ephraim and lived in Salt Lake City. She and Dr. Robert E. Bowen had seven children. Becky (William) Ballantine and Scott (Vali Summers) Bowen live in the Seattle area. Chris (Nancy Taylor) Bowen lives in the Washington, D.C. area. Tracy and Brad (Shelly) Bowen live in Salt Lake City. Laurie Fyans passed away last year and Michael Bowen passed away at age 8 as a child. She has 15 grandchildren and a new baby great-granddaughter who was born last month. Jo was a good wife and mother and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She had many long-term friends. She was artistic and loved to do crafts, embroider and sew. Jo's great-grandparents were converts to Mormonism and were among the first pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church and grew up in the 33rd and Douglas Wards and lived and raised her family in the Federal Heights Ward. Later she was a member of the 18th North Ward. She enjoyed many different church callings, in the Primary, MIA and Relief Society. She was a Cub-Scout Den Mother, a guide at the Beehive House, docent at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and a part-time Service Missionary at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. She attended the University of Utah and after her family was raised worked there on special projects and in the Language Department. The family would like to express their gratitude to staff and healthcare providers at Sunrise Assisted Living Center at Holladay and Frankie Loftus and the other hospice providers at Inspiration Hospice Care. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church, 18th North Ward, 135 A Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the services.
