Our beloved mother and grandmother Mary L. Johnston passed away Dec. 3, 2017, at the age of 86 surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 16, 1931 in Arlington, Missouri and was one of nine children.
In 1958, Mary moved to Utah and fell in love with the great outdoors where she spent time fishing and camping with friends and family. Experiences that were especially cherished by her grandchildren. Mary was a true pioneer as the first female bus driver for St. Vincent's Catholic Church and then many years for Murray City School District. In 1985, she became a correctional officer and at the age of 57, was the oldest female to graduate from P.O.S.T. Her spirit and sense of adventure will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by three daughters Patricia (Susie) Birch, Kris Henriod and Roxann Shafto; Grandchildren Bobby Porter, Mike Porter, Sean Garrison, Chad Reyes, Eric Reyes, Brett Reyes, Micky Bailey and Crystal Miller; nine great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by six siblings, her husband Carrol Johnston, daughter Toni Reyes, grandchildren Colby Reyes, Tiffany Bailey and long-time friend Donald Stoddard.
Services will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7405 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, UT, beginning with a visitation at 10 am followed by Mass at 11 am. Entombment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 S. 1700 E.
