Elizabeth K. Wetzel

1927 ~ 2017

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully from pneumonia December 8, 2017. Betty's military childhood began June 20, 1927 at Fort McPherson, GA when she was born to Julia Baird Schoonmaker and Maxwell Gordon Keeler. Moving every 4 to 5 years during her youth broadened her horizons and nurtured her trademark qualities of compassion, sense of duty, integrity, and life of service to others. With a degree from Washington State University and a Masters Degree from the College of Puget Sound, Betty taught High School English before meeting her sweetheart Dick D. Wetzel. Dick introduced her to, and later baptized her a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They married in 1953 and were later sealed in 1959 for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Betty immersed herself in supporting her husband in his pediatric practice, while raising four children in a loving, secure, organized home filled with gourmet meals and her legendary Swedish Lace cookies. Ever positive, our most lovable "quintessential lady" leaves a cherished legacy of unfailing devotion to the Lords service, joyful mothering and grand mothering, and optimism to her last breath… a giving light to all she touched.

Betty is survived by her children Pam Flygare (Logan), Laurie (Kent) Bowman (OK), Jeff (Molly) (SLC), Anne (Christopher) Condie (FL), 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and sisters-in-laws Arda Leatham and Lois Keeler.
