Sunday night was one of those sultry Summer evenings that make you wish for a cool summer rain, or a chilly mountain breeze. Maybe the fish were rising, or a moonlit Harley ride sounded inviting. We don't know exactly why Bates left us that night. We only know by morning he was gone.
Eugene Guy Bates was born June 29, 1939 in Salt Lake City to Guy Winfred and Ruth Long Bates. He Married LouAnn Smith April 10, 1964 in the Salt Lake temple. They recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. "Bates" proudly served his country, and was an exemplary worker all his life.
Survived by his wife LouAnn, his daughter Allison (Keith) Colson, the Grandchildren that he adored, Carly, Nick, Erin, Alex and Cameron, and sister Beverly Bates. Many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended friends and family will forever be grateful for this unique character that graced their lives. He was preceded in death by his son Zackery Bates.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 25th at 6:00pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 So.)
