David Hafen Neilson

1960 ~ 2016

David passed away on July 5, 2016 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was 55. David was born August 10, 1960 in Salt Lake City, UT to Mildred and Carl Neilson. He was the youngest of 8 children. He grew up in Granger, UT. He was married to Jill Hatch on Oct. 9, 1987 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had 3 children: Jenice (27), Cameron (25) and Taylor (23).

David is a man of many talents and skills. He is known to all as a man of service and teaching. He loved his family and the Lord. He is a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Philippines Davao Mission. He was a trusted employee of the National Weather Service for 28 years. David was always out to make a new friend and could make anyone feel welcome and loved. You always knew what he was thinking because he wasn't afraid to tell you exactly how he felt or what he thought. He always had a joke ready to go and could make you laugh at the silliest things. David was excellent with his hands and knew how to repair anything. He spent time in his youth working to learn as much as he could about creating things with his hands. He took every class he could to learn new things like upholstery, woodwork, metal work, and others. All of those skills were useful throughout his life as he used what he knew to teach his children and those around him. David will live on through the lives of his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife Jill, children; Jenice (Corey), Cameron, and Taylor; brothers: Ron, Ben, Sheldon, and Marlin; sister: Faye; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents: Mildred and Carl; and 2 sisters: Ronalda and Virginia.

Services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 12:00pm at the Mueller Park 8th Ward Meetinghouse at 1320 East 1975 South in Bountiful, UT 84010. A viewing will be held at the church from 9:00-11:30am prior to the services. Interment will occur at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery.
