Charles Henry Hofer

1927 ~ 2016

Charles Henry Hofer, 88, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2016 of natural causes. He was born August 2, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Henry Fred Hofer and Louise Baum. He spent his early years in Salt Lake City until moving to La Center, Washington with his family at about 8 years old. He lived in Washington until his family returned back to Utah around 1943. In 1945 he joined the United States Navy and served in the Philippines as a member of a Construction Battalion (Seabees). After the Navy, he attended and graduated from Utah State University with a BS Engineering degree. In November 1953 he married Janet Lucille Wiechert in West Jordan, Utah. They made their home and raised four children while living in West Jordan. He worked as a field service diesel mechanic for Wheeler Machinery for many years to support his family.

Charles and Janet moved to La Center, Washington in 1983. Their son Paul and his wife Lynette also moved to La Center near the same time and became their neighbors there. He loved being in the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was talented in his ability to build and repair many things over the years from bulldozers to houses. He was an outstanding example of self reliance and provided help and support to his family and others throughout his lifetime.

His wife Janet preceded him in death in 2013 after 59 years of marriage. He is survived by their four children and their spouses; Harley (Jeri), Kim Hogan (Scott), Paul (Lynette) and Andrew (Melissa). He also has 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) in Sandy. A viewing will be held Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 pm prior to services. Thanks for everything, Dad. We'll miss you.
