Jeanne Bowen Olsen

1922 ~ 2015

Jeanne Bowen Olsen passed away May 18th 2015 at her daughter's home in Gilbert AZ. Born July 8th 1922 in Ridgewood NJ to Charles Franklin Bowen and Minnie Mary Hinckley. Jeanne\s family moved to Manhattan when she was 6 yrs old. They later moved to Flushing NY where she graduated a year early from high school. On her 17th birthday Jeanne and her parents sailed out of NY harbor to Hawaii so her father, a retired geologist with Standard Oil could study the geology of the islands. Jeanne spent her freshman year of college at the University of Hawaii. After a year her family moved to SLC where she graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Home Economics in 1943. Jeanne served a full time mission to the French mission from 1949-1951. In 1953 she married Dennis Olsen of Cardston Alberta Canada in the SLC temple. Jeanne also lived in Spokane WA, San Jose CA and Bellevue WA. Jeanne was a Temple worker in the Seattle Temple for many years. She left WA to serve a full time family history mission in SLC from 1987-1989. After her mission she moved to SLC to work on Family History. Jeanne served faithfully in the LDS church as a Primary President, Relief Society President and chorister but most often served as a church Family History consultant. She was a long time member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Jeanne loved family, music, tulips and never turned down chocolate.

Jeanne is survived by her children Craig (Linda) of San Luis Obispo CA, Brent of Bothell WA, and Stacey Griffith (Les) of Gilbert AZ, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grand children.

A viewing will be held on Monday morning June 1st from 9:30 to 10:45 am at the Larkin Mortuary. Funeral services will be held following the viewing at 11:00. Larkin Mortuary is located at 260 East South Temple, SLC. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to the LDS missionary fund.
