Our beautiful Mother, Avis Hockenbary Rawlings, age 93, peacefully joined Jesus from complications of a stroke on October 11, 2013. She was born on February 9, 1920, in Aurora Nebraska to William Marvin and Theresa Hockenbary.
Her family was her life. She instilled in us a strong faith, and a deep love for our God and all of His creation. Mother loved the peace that nature brings, especially the freedom of riding on her horse and the serenity and beauty of clouds. She prayed relentlessly not only for our family, but for everyone who needed prayer. She was often referred to as our "Prayer Warrior". She was a dedicated servant to her friends and her church at Good Shepherd Lutheran. Avis touched many lives, was loved by so many, and will be deeply missed.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Amos Rawlings. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Rawlings DeSmet (Steve) and Linda A. Rawlings, her grandchildren Eric DeSmet (Lori) and Kristin Anderson (Adam), and her great-grandchildren Tyson Steck and Katelyn DeSmet.
Her service, a Celebration of Life, will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 4:30 pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 8575 South 700 East, Sandy. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to CareSource Charitable Foundation, 1624 East 4500 South, Salt Lake City, UT, 84117.
