1940 ~ 2016

Sonnie Heyman passed away on June 20, 2016 due to complications of a stroke. She was surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was born on April 1, 1940 in Palo Alto, California to William J. and Nelda Smith Graef. Her father was serving in the US Navy at the time of her birth, and after the end of World War II they moved to Salt Lake City where Nelda had a large extended family.

Sonnie grew up in Salt Lake and attended East High School, but moved in her junior year to the Holladay area and then graduated from Olympus High School. She attended Westminster College for a year and then became employed in secretarial work. She met and married Frank Heyman in 1960. Frank was in college at the University of Utah, and they lived together in the married student housing where their son Kevin was born. Sonnie supported her husband throughout his studies and Jeffery and Hilary were born soon after he graduated.

Thereafter, she followed her husband wherever his career path took him which included to Los Angeles, Hawaii, Kentucky, back to Los Angles and then to Sandy, Utah were she remained until her death. Sonnie was very talented in the arts. She painted with oils, sewed and quilted, worked with wood in her home shop, and she also loved to work in the garden.
