Hyrum Dewey Petersen

1938 ~ 2014

Centerville, UT - Hyrum Dewey Petersen 76, our beloved Husband, Father, Brother and Friend passed away on December 13, 2014, after a brief illness surrounded by his family. Born August 10, 1938 to Joseph Hyrum and Annie Mable Kagie Petersen. He was one of six children. As a small child Dewey grew up working with his dad and brothers in the family Water Well Drilling Business, J.Hy Petersen and Sons Drilling Co. As a young man he proudly served in the U.S. Army. He married his sweetheart Leah Patricia Sims on November 19, 1970 and instantly became the proud father of three small children. From that time forward his son Ronnie became his constant companion at work until his passing. He was a Well Drilling and Pump Contractor. He was the owner of Petersen Bros. Drilling Co., Inc. and over many years had the pleasure of working with his customers and colleagues whom he had a great appreciation for. He had a vast knowledge of the construction and development of Water Wells, and passed his knowledge on to many. He was one of the founding fathers of the Utah Ground Water Association and served as the President in 2008 and 2009. He served two work missions thru The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for Africare, in Nigeria Africa. He helped teach the skills needed to drill water wells, and provide clean drinking water for the Nigerian people. Water Well Drilling was his life\s passion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph Gary Petersen, sister Karen Petersen Poppleton, granddaughters Megan Marie Cannon and Tara Lynn Allison, and nephew Morgan Petersen

He is survived by his wife, children Ronald F (Alice) Warren, Patricia W. (Dee) Evans, and Natalie W. (Tim) Allison. Brothers Farrell Petersen, Harlow \"Gus\" Petersen, Sister Marlene P. Camden, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to Thank the staff at the Hunstman Cancer Institute and The U of U Hospital for the professional and compassionate care.

A viewing will be held Wednesday December 17, 6 to 8 pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT and Thursday December 18 from 9:00 to 10:30am prior to the funeral services at 11 am in the Centerville 8th Ward LDS Chapel, 2110 N. Main St. Centerville, UT. Internment at Lakeview Memorial Estates.
