Ruth Laverne Speight Wilkes passed away of natural causes August 22, 2015 at the age of 92, at home with family at her side. Born April 14, 1923 to Arthur E. Speight and Clara E. Westbrook Speight. Married Heber Chase Wilkes March 28, 1948. Graduated from West High School. Worked at the arms plant during World War II, the Union Pacific Railroad, and for most of her working life, at Templeton Linke and Alsup. She loved working in her yard and caring for her roses that she and her husband referred to as their "bottle babies."
Ruth is preceded in death by her loving husband, Heber Chase Wilkes; parents, Arthur and Clara Speight; and brother, Edward Speight. Survived by her children, Jeffrey Chase Wilkes, Nanette Walker Wilkes, Timothy Scott Wilkes; sister, Donna G. Gunrud; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery., 4th Avenue and ‘N' Street.
