David Kent Ashton

1960 ~ 2014

David Kent Ashton peacefully left this earth on June 24, 2014 after courageously battling Lou Gehrig's disease for the past four years. Born to David and Colleen Ashton on February 11, 1960 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is the oldest of eight siblings.

Kent grew up in Arizona where he graduated from Alhambra High School. There he also earned his Eagle Scout award and thereafter faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in Lansing, Michigan. He married his first wife Ellen and began his family with three children. He enjoyed a successful career in Fort Worth, Texas where he met his present wife Marci. On November 11, 1995 they were married, bringing their children together to eventually form a family of nine. Kent and Marci were eternally sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple. His willingness to serve others was evident in and out of his church callings. Most recently he loved working as an outstanding indexer.

Though Kent loved to travel, there was nowhere he would rather be than with his family. Never was there a dull moment in Kent's home; every day was devoted to his family, playing games, watching movies, reading books with his granddaughter, and making sure that every day quality time was spent together. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren who could always count on a new box of Lucky Charms or a chocolate from his drawer. While people gravitated toward him for his generosity, determination, and ingenuity, he could also make them simultaneously laugh and want to hit him because of his quick and sarcastic humor. He had a way of bringing people together in any situation and he will be dearly missed.

Kent is survived by his sweetheart Marci; his mother Colleen; children, Kyle, Audi, Ian, and Autumn; step-children, Andrea Rickey, Meggan Dahl, and Aaron Schmitt; son in laws, Trevor Dahl and Lance Rickey; daughter in law, Michelle Ashton. He is also survived by his siblings; Claudia Ashton, Debbie Brooksby, Paul Ashton, Jim Ashton, Kathleen Keiner, and Mark Ashton. Lastly, but for Kent, certainly not least, four darling grandchildren whom he treasures, Jane, Eliza, Henry Ashton and Scarlett Dahl, as well as many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother Mike and father David Ashton.

A celebration of Kent's life will be held Friday June 27, 2014 from 6pm to 8pm at the Larkin Mortuary, 3688 W. 12600 S., Riverton, Utah. Funeral services will begin at 11am on Saturday June 28, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints Oquirrh Lake Stake Center, 4517 Mille Lacs Dr, South Jordan, Utah. In keeping with his wishes, Kent will be cremated and later have his ashes taken to Flattop Mountain in Anchorage, Alaska.
