Larry Joseph Barfuss

1949 ~ 2014

Larry Joseph Barfuss, age 64, died peacefully on June 5, 2014 in Salt Lake City surrounded by the love of his entire family.

Larry was born October 13, 1949 in Logan, Utah. He was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2005. He was part of a lung study at the University of Utah. His participation in the study using the trial medication added years to his life. His family would like to thank all of the medical professionals who assisted in his care, but most especially to Dr. Mary Beth Scholand, who was not only his primary care doctor, but a dear friend. His involvement in the lung study will benefit so many others.

Larry was a people person if there ever was one. He never met a stranger. Everyone quickly became his friend and his friends were all dear to him. He loved anything mechanical (especially reconditioning his 1998 Corvette), Harley-Davidson motorcycles (and the riders that always became his friends), Lake Powell and Diet Coke. His favorite pastime was searching for a great deal. When he found it, he bought whatever it was in bulk to share.

He was well loved by his siblings and extended family. He always had a funny story to tell and was anxious to plan the next big outing. He was everyone's favorite uncle and was a fun grandpa. He was a true optimist and always found the bright side in every situation.

Larry graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1967. He served an LDS mission to the Gulf States from 1968 - 1970. He and Annette were sealed for time and all eternity on October 19, 1972 in the Salt Lake Temple. His greatest joy was being with his family, most especially his adored grandchildren. He often remembered to tell his family, "Remember who you are and what you represent."

Larry is survived by his beloved companion, Annette, and their six children; Jennifer Dastrup (Jared), Jessica Tidwell (Adam), Erica Banks (Stanley), Emily Larsen, Christopher (Lindsey), and Nickolas (Denise); 17 grandchildren; his parents, Joseph and Sally Barfuss; his mother-in-law, Beverly Hebdon; his siblings, Heidi Wasden (Carl), Julie Beck (Ray), Andy Barfuss (Julie), Stacie Lythgoe (Kevin), Jodie Curtis (Kitt). He is preceded in death by his mother, LaRue Barton Barfuss, his father-in-law, Blaine Hebdon, and grandson, Jack Adam Tidwell.

Because of his knowledge of God's plan, Larry said, "It's not goodbye, it's see you later."
