Marjorie Irene Mathews

Our mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2018. She was born on August 3rd, 1926 in Ogden, Utah to Cornelius and Jozina Asmus. Marjorie grew up in Sugarhouse and graduated from South High School. She worked at Kress' candy counter where she met her life-long best friend Melba. Together with their husbands they enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Canada.

During World War II she met her sweetheart, William Mathews, who was stationed at Kearns Air Force Base. They married on October 21st, 1944 and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 18th, 1976. Together they had four children. As a family she loved going to Disneyland and shopping for Delft. She especially loved the holidays with family and beautifully decorated each room in the house.

She was a very efficient typist and used this skill as a Medical Coder for Doctors Business Management Service for many years. After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed their daily walk through Liberty Park and working together in their yard.

Marjorie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved serving with children in her calling as a Junior Sunday School Coordinator, which she held for many years.

Survived by her children Susan (Mel) Kraft, William (Laurie) Mathews, John (Kathleen) Mathews, Michelle Mathews; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband William; her parents and all 10 siblings; best friend Melba Wright; and two great-grandbabies Allene and Nicole.

The family would like to thank Shirlene Daybell and Sue Sanders for their tender love and friendship towards our mother. We would also like to thank the dedicated staff at Cascades at Riverwalk for their compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 27th at 11:00 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy. Friends are invited to greet the family at a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the service. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
