Dorothy Ward Spackman passed from this life on August 20th 2017 from heart failure. She was born September 6th 1920 in Minersville, Utah to Luella Hall and Oliver Ward, the youngest of 7 siblings. She moved to Provo, Utah after her mother died and was raised by Oliver and her step-mother Mae, with 3 additional siblings. She graduated from Provo High School in 1938. She married the love of her life Thomas Dean Spackman on November 18th 1939 in Farmington, Utah. They were happily married for 77 years.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in the Primary and Relief Society. She was the quilting chairman for many years. She was a member of the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers North Hills camp, where she served as Chaplain. She worked in the shoe department of the Paris department store for 15 years.
She loved to keep her hands busy. She is best known for hundreds of hand quilted quilts, most of which she lovingly gave away. She also crocheted, was an accomplished seamstress and a very talented cook. She was especially good at cooking all the game brought home by Dean from hunting and fishing trips. She wrote poems about every subject and made her "Dot's Hi Notes" from pansies grown in her garden. She was always a gracious hostess and sprang into action to make sure everyone who came by was made welcome. She loved to gather her family's histories and hand wrote many of their stories. She complied photo books of weddings, trips and family events.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas Dean Spackman and her eldest daughter Sherrie Lou Spackman Morley. She is survived by sons Michael (Claire Christensen), Richard (Suzanne), Robert (Jeannie), daughter Susan, son-in-law Roy Morley, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Viewings will be held on Friday August 25th, 6:00 ‚ 8:00 PM at Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah and Saturday, August 26th at 9:00 AM at the LDS church at 589 18th Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah, with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 AM. Interment and graveside service will take place at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo Utah, August 26th at 2:00 PM.
