June Cannon Orme, age 101, passed away early in the morning on February 8, 2016, from heart failure. She was born to Jesse Fox Cannon and Margaret McKeever on June 14, 1914, the youngest of four children. Her older sister Margaret died at age 7, while her two brothers Floyd and Quentin, protected and sheltered her into their mature years.
June, a graduate of East High School, was honored last year as the oldest living alumnae. She earned her bachelor's degree from The University of Utah and began her career as an English teacher. She educated many in and out of the classroom.
While courting Elvon W Orme, they were asked by Heber J. Grant to marry quickly, so they could leave the next week to serve as Mission President in Australia. They were married on February 26, 1941. Elvon preceded her in death in 1990.
June's life was one of wonder, travel, and adventure; although she would rather hear of the experiences of others than boast of her own. June filled our lives with her grace, class, and beauty. All were welcome in her home and at her table, where the setting was always perfect and the food divine. No subject was ever discouraged at her dining room table or living room. June encouraged us to express our opinions and to speak freely. She had a passion for gardening and instilled that love to her family. She could always be found in her white chair with a book in her hand. She was a beautiful example of a kind and thoughtful friend, mother and grandmother. She remained active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life.
June is survived by her three children: Margaret Anne Davidson, Ada Crelley Mackey, Geoffrey Alvin Orme (Lynnette), 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. How does one live so long and so happily? June would simply say, "Always take the stairs, two at a time, and three as long as you are able. Never take the elevator."
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 13, at 12 noon. Friends and family may call Saturday prior to the funeral from 10 to 11:30 am at the Foothill Seventh Ward, 2215 E. Roosevelt Ave.
