Dorothy Ida McIntire

1917 ~ 2015

Dorothy Ida McIntire, 97, passed gently away Wednesday, April 15, 2015, holding the hand of her daughter. The family extends many thanks to the care givers of Hunter Hollow in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dorothy was born in Weston, Idaho on August 9, 1917 to George Peter Georgeson and Ida Elena Coburn. The youngest of four daughters, Dorothy helped with the many chores of the farm, eventually becoming an excellent gardener, seamstress and cook. With a talent for math and accounting, Dorothy graduated with a degree in Business from Utah State University and began her teaching career which would last 42 years.

Dorothy met her sweet heart, Robert P. McIntire, when he asked her to dance at the Riverside Gardens Ball Room in 1940. They were married in the Logan Utah LDS Temple in May 1941. They were an inseparable team; planning, working and serving together with love and gratitude for one another. Dorothy was a great support to her husband as he served his mission and earned his teaching degree in Science. For 25 years they worked together at Rigby High School where Dorothy taught typing, shorthand, and accounting, and R.P. taught science. Dorothy sought excellence in all of her work and she encouraged her students to strive for excellence. Her classroom was lined with the first place awards her students won each year in state competitions. Many students have expressed appreciation for her expertise preparing them for jobs.

Dorothy and R.P.'s passion was working together on their beautiful Rigby home and gardens. They would spend their summers re-designing, renovating and gardening. Their yard was always filled with beautiful flowers, strawberries, raspberries and tomatoes. Dorothy served in numerous church callings and she especially loved visiting teaching. Neighbors regularly enjoyed warm bread from her oven and fresh produce from her garden. Dorothy was our "Honey." She worked tirelessly to take care of her family and neighbors. Honey was beautiful, strong, stoic, and endured all trials of life without complaint. Honey and Daddy created a warm haven for their family filled with love, faith, generosity, and gratitude. Their dance of life together lasted 70 years and continues now through eternity.

Dorothy is always loved and remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Mickie and Ralph Massengale of Salt Lake City; her son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Peggy McIntire of Rapid City, S.D.; her two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

At her request, no service will be held. Condolences may be sent to ralph007s@gmail.com.
