Janell Newman Berry, 56, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2016, surrounded by her devoted family at her home in Sandy, Utah, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Janell was born on April 25, 1959 in Jerome, Idaho to Thomas and Marjorie Newman. The youngest of six children, she loved growing up on her family's farm in rural Idaho. She attended Jerome High School where, as a junior, she met Bryce Berry, and later graduated in 1977. Janell was blessed with a bright intellect and excelled in her accounting studies at Brigham Young University, where she graduated with honors in 1981. She and Bryce were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 25, 1981—her 22nd birthday.
Janell moved with her family to Sandy, Utah, where she lovingly raised her four children, and enjoyed reading, hiking, running, and playing tennis with family and friends. She and Bryce partnered on the businesses they started and successfully operated, and together enjoyed visiting new places around the world. Most of all, she prized the time she was able to spend with her family—and in particular her grandchildren.
Janell was dedicated to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She possessed a valiant testimony, and most often taught others by her loving, obedient example. Her radiant personality and smile warmed those she met, and many remember her as a kind, caring, accepting, genuine, and loyal friend.
Janell is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Bryce Berry; four children: Clinton (Melissa) Berry, Caroline (Jordan) Carlson, Jacquelyn (Dallin) Cerva, and Katherine (Jared) Scott; four grandchildren: Hazel Berry, Sadie Berry, Ashton Berry, and Trygve Carlson; five siblings: Marcy (Lonnie) Ambrose, Tim (Fran) Newman, Cathy (Stan) Lott, Sharyn (Denny) Thurston, and Kerry (Dave) Randall; and her in-laws, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. She is preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Granite View Stake Center, 9880 S. 3100 E., Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Granite View Stake Center. Interment will be in the Granite Cemetery, Sandy.
