Gary R. Howe

1944 ~ 2015

Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Gary Ralph Howe, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Gary was born June 1, 1944 in Salt Lake City to David Ralph Howe and Virginia Duffin. As a boy, he learned the value of hard work and developed a keen interest in sports, finding great fulfillment from both throughout his life. He attended local schools and graduated from Highland High School in 1962.

Gary was a blessing to the people in the Midwest as he faithfully served his mission in the Central States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and called his experiences a tremendous source for his personal and spiritual growth.

He headed to the University of Utah where he earned a degree in accounting and then his law degree in 1970. It was while at the "U" that he married "the cutest girl in the fourth grade", Sharon Ann Fullmer on January 7, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple where they sealed their love for time and all eternity. Together they raised four sons and a daughter, Scott, Rob, Brady, Dan and Alison, just down the road from the university, home to Gary's very favorite sports team, the Utah Utes.

A well-respected attorney, Gary practiced law for 38 years at Callister Nebeker and McCullough. Appreciated and valued throughout the legal community, he enjoyed his associations with his co-workers and clients, counting many as his closest friends. A favorite client, the New Car Dealers of Utah Association, inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2008.

Gary spent countless hours in service to his church and his community. He served in many different capacities, but he will always be known as a masterful teacher and a beloved coach. He loved teaching others, and shared his testimony and knowledge with humility but power. His remarkable ability to teach was a gift that blessed many lives. He excitedly served another mission with his sweetheart, Sharon, in the Connecticut Hartford Mission and spoke fondly of the friends made there.

Gary enjoyed playing, watching and coaching sports, especially football and golf, boating, reading, traveling with friends and with his family, good music and the Utah Utes. He adored his children and his grandchildren and delighted in participating in their lives. He loved his Savior and made sure his family knew it through his word and deed.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon; sons Scott Gary (Shauna Stubbs), Robert David (Rachel Hansen), Jon Brady (Sarah Scalley), Daniel Jacob (Robyn Lewis); daughter Alison (Samuel Martell) Adams; twenty-two grandchildren; sister Kathryn (Harold) Smith; brother Gordon (Carol); and many dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 10, 2015 at 12:00 noon in the Foothill 6th Ward Chapel, 2215 East Roosevelt Avenue, Salt Lake City. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00‚8:00 p.m.at the Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, and Monday morning from 10:30‚11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment at Larkin Sunset Lawn.
