Larry George Bishop

1945 ~ 2015

Larry Bishop age 70 passed away Friday December 18 peacefully at home from complications of brain cancer.

Born July 31, 1945 in Denver Colorado to Roy Baker and Mabel Merrill Bishop, he moved with his family to Centerville, Utah as a teenager, graduating from Bountiful High School, followed by an associate's degree from the University of Utah and Bachelors of Science from Weber State. After serving honorably in Viet Nam, he met the love of his life Mary Brady on a blind date and they were married August 10, 1973. He was a loving father to daughters Leslie Ann and Suzanne Carol. His granddaughters Bridget and Eliza loved to play with their Bapo and miss him dearly.

He loved his family, classic cars and was a proud progressive Democrat.

Larry loved working with his hands on anything with wheels. His father\s garage was a busy workshop. He turned this love into a degree in engineering and alongside his wife and daughter Suzy ran a successful business restoring classic show cars.

Larry also loved being an entrepreneur and owned several businesses in his lifetime.

Larry delighted in taking photos and constantly had a camera to record his family\s lives and his beloved cars. He was passionate about politics and fought for healthcare reform and marriage equality. He was such an advocate of women\s rights he was among the first male members of The Women\s Democratic Club of Utah. Larry served his country honorably in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in a combat zone.

Larry is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Leslie (Tim) Phillips, Suzy Bishop and her devoted partner Steve Derr, beloved granddaughters Bridget and Eliza Phillips, brother Dave (Carol), in-laws Carol Brady, Ted (Dora)Brady, Charles Brady and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandchildren Elena and TJ Phillips.

Services will be held Monday December 28th at noon at Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple, friends and family can visit beginning at 11:00 am. We invite friends and family to attend a celebration of Larry's life on Monday after the service at 4 pm, at 839 South 700 East in Salt Lake City.
