Katherine Cummings Reese was born on October 6, 1925 to Leland Milton and Katherine Forester Morris Cummings. After graduating from East High, she attended the U of U. She married LaVar Frederick Reese on August 9, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. At the time, he was serving in the Air Force. One of their greatest achievements was supporting their son David throughout his life.
Mother loved golfing, bowling and playing bridge. She was a Life Master Bridge Player with the American Contract Bridge League. She also taught duplicate bridge for many years and was manager of the Bridge Club in Salt Lake City, UT. She loved to read the newspaper and did the crossword puzzles every morning. She was an avid speed reader, checking out 4 to 5 books a week from the library until she lost her sight. She worked as a clerk for the Salt Lake County Court System for 15 years.
When she moved in with her daughter, her visiting teacher from her previous ward kept in touch with phone calls, visits and lunch dates.
Katherine is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie Reese (Wayne) Bailey and Rebecca Lynn (Robert) Chamberlin, 4 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and sister Maylene (Harold) Waldhouse. Preceded in death by her loving husband LaVar, son David, 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She had a wonderful life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. We would like to thank Canyon Hospice for their wonderful help for the past year in taking care of her and making her comfortable. We would also like to thank Wentworth Draper Assisted Living for their friendship and tender care.
There will be a viewing and celebration of her life from 10:00 am ‚ 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
