\"Other Things About Robert Mearle Marsh...\"

Robert \Bob\ Mearle Marsh, wonderful son, brother, husband, dad and Opa, passed away October 31, 2014 in Bountiful, Utah.

Born to Mearle Clyde (Jr.) and Virginia Welch Marsh on April 8, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Robert was the third of eight children. His family was everything to him! He loved his parents, brothers and sisters! He loved to spend time with them. He helped them with everything he could. He was also blessed to have many grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews close enough to be a part of his life.

Robert attended Rose Park and Newman Elementary schools and Northwest Junior High School. He graduated from West High School in 1970 and spent several years at Weber State College studying mechanical engineering.

Robert was an avid reader and life-long learner. His preferred reading material included non-fiction, historical, biographical and Gospel works. He LOVED getting to know about other cultures and peoples. He collected inspirational thoughts and poems. He knew how to spell just about any word in the English language. His proof-reading and editing skills have helped many of us with a report, term-paper or talk. He loved to help people of all ages learn to read. He trained as a literacy tutor for adults, mentoring them in reading and writing skills. He LOVED to tutor the Kindergartners of Mrs. Robinson\s classes in reading for five years!

Robert served in the Germany South LDS mission 1971-1973, working mostly with American service personnel and has served in many other callings and capacities. His favorite calling of all time was serving with his mother as a nursery leader; "Sister Marsh and Uncle Bob" were a beloved team for so many nursery children! He felt deeply that he was his brother\s keeper and constantly served any he could, mostly in quiet ways.

Robert was really good with cars. He had a profound understanding of all things mechanical and could fix almost anything. He enjoyed driving, both for a living and just to drive around. He could find ANY address in the Salt Lake Valley and most other places in Utah. He also became a bonded locksmith and operated his own business, "The Lock Doctor", for several years. He was a dependable, steady worker, earning commendations from his employers and many 100% attendance awards over the years in both school and employment.

Robert loved singing! Nicknamed "the Basso Profundo", his deep bass voice anchored many a choir and musical play ensemble chorus. He sang solos for church functions and weddings. He also played both trumpet and baritone in school and All-City bands under the baton of Delton Bettridge. He was frequently called upon to play "Taps" on his trumpet at military funerals.

Robert met the love of his life, Terri Loertscher, his Lady, while performing in "A Christmas Carol" at Promised Valley Playhouse in 1978. They married March 20, 1981 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in West Valley City until 1984 when they moved to Robert\s childhood home in Rose Park. Together they have raised seven wonderful children and have been joined by two marvelous daughters-in-law and 3 granddaughters, with twins ‚ another granddaughter and a grandson ‚ on the way.

Robert was always involved in sports, either playing, reffing, coaching or watching. He loved to play football, baseball, and basketball. He shared this love of sports with his children and others.

Robert was actively involved in parenting his children. Along with Terri, he considered parents to be the primary educators for their children and he lived that philosophy by attending every parent teacher conference, game, program, play or parade possible. He loved reading bed-time stories to his children every night. He would sings songs to them after tucking them into bed.

We welcome memories of Robert from friends and family as we preserve his memory for his grandchildren. We appreciate all who have shared with us.

As Robert\s family, we express our deepest appreciation to each of his siblings and extended family members and also to friends, ward members, teachers and co-workers who touched Robert\s life in any way at any stage (particularly those who have prayed, visited, supported or helped in any way in recent years). A special thank you to Life Care Center of Bountiful nurses/staff and the Val Verda 7th Branch Presidency for the wonderful day-to-day care and support provided during the last 2Ω years of Robert\s life when he needed so much more than we could do for him, to Brighton Hospice for helping us through the journey of letting go, and to Larkin Mortuary for helping us care for Robert\s body so lovingly!

And mostly we express appreciation and gratitude to Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, for the Gospel, the Atonement and Their help in life! We\re so grateful to them for letting us have Robert in our lives!

Robert is survived by his wife; children Trevor (Nicolle), Kellee, Gregory (Elizabeth), Erin, Talitha, Jennifer and Arza; granddaughters Morgan, Kaylee and Angela; siblings Don, (Thayne\s wife Deaun), Scott (Mary), Lyman, Patra Anne (Don), Mearle "MC" III (Holly) and Melodie (Dave) and Loertscher siblings; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
