Thomas Call Barlow

1956 ~ 2014

Thomas Call Barlow returned to his Heavenly Father on October 9, 2014 after fighting a valiant 13-month battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and left a "never to be forgotten" legacy to all who knew him.

Tom was born in Salt Lake City on May 15, 1956 to David Beck and Elizabeth Call Barlow, the 5th of 7 children. After spending his first few years in Bountiful, Tom and his family moved to Redwood City, California when Tom was three. It was there that Tom's infectious comedic personality blossomed and where his athletic skills in basketball, tennis and track began. This culminated in numerous athletic achievements, and a relentless competitive drive, not only in sports but in everything he achieved in his rich and full life. He became an avid runner and mountain biker.

After graduation from Sequoia High School, Tom attended both Utah State and BYU. It was at BYU where he met and married his eternal soul mate Janette Chew in 1979 in Redwood City California, and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. After graduation from BYU, Tom began his professional career with Chevron Chemical, and then Monsanto, and finally with Scotts where he was their District Sales Manager for the Western States.

Tom was a warrior in everything he did, and he accomplished so much in his young life through his genuine love for people. Anyone who knew Tom loved Tom, and he was truly larger than life. His generosity of time and means benefited so many, and his ability to make people laugh at his many stories have become the core of the fabric of "Growing up Barlow."

Tom's most important role was his love of family and his Church. He was a defender of his faith, and a loyal and supportive individual to all who knew him. He honored and loved his ancestors. He was a "walking encyclopedia" of Church history, as well as being an expert on The Civil War and both World Wars. He had a fierce love for animals, and was a true animal advocate. Tom loved to travel. His zest for life and interest in the world made him such a fun traveling companion.

Above all else, his eternal companion and their three talented children, were the center of his universe and they loved and honored their father. Tom is survived by his wife Janette, his daughter Crystal (Shane), his sons Ryan (Nicole), and Landon as well as two grandchildren—Arabella and Ashton. He is also survived by six siblings.
