Ellie Pugmire

1922 ~ 2017

Ellie Pugmire passed away on June 10, 2017 in San Marcos, California at the age of 95. She was born on April 8, 1922 to Harlow and Esther Jelte in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she had a happy childhood with her brothers and sisters Bud, Jack, Bettie, and Anne.

Ellie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she enjoyed serving as a pianist and organist for over 50 years in her various wards in California and Utah. Richard Pugmire won her heart and they married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1943. They went on to live in California, Utah, and Idaho, and even a year stint in Teheran, Iran. Their 71 years together were so active, industrious, adventurous, and fulfilling. Their daughter, Joan Marie, was born November 2, 1945. She married Bill Wootton and that added to Ellie's joy 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Ellie always had a big, generous heart of love for all her family and friends. Ellie excelled at many things all the while working full time in a very diverse array of jobs. To name a few, Ellie was the personal secretary to Howard Hughes, managed a bikini shop in Beverly Hills, ran the office of a company that managed professional athletes, and was a secretary at Lockheed Aerospace. After retiring and moving back to Salt Lake, Ellie opened an antique shop in Sandy with her sister, Anne.
