Marilyn McKay Smith

1940 ~ 2018

Marilyn McKay Smith, 77, was born on December 14, 1940, in Ogden, UT to Gordon Hugh McKay and Ortell Stallings McKay and passed away peacefully at her home on October 1, 2018. She grew up with her older sister and best friend, Ethel Ann, who died in 1959 and Marilyn missed her the rest of her life. She married her high school sweetheart, Darl Mark Smith, on January 14, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Ogden until 1973, then moved to the Mount Olympus Cove area for over 30 years and finally to Sandy.

They were blessed with 6 children. Mom loved her family; her focus was always on the church and her family and wanting us to be together. She never gave up on any of us. Whenever we needed a place, she opened the door and let us come home. Even in her dementia, she always said, "I love my family." She loved music and served as a Primary pianist for over 20 years. She loved serving in all her callings, whether it was with the children in Primary or with the women in Relief Society as a counselor in the Relief Society presidency. She worked for the court system in Ogden, and after raising her family, in the 3rd District court as an office manager. After their retirement, Marilyn and Darl served a mission in Jamaica. They have been inseparable and have shown their children what true love is and that families really are to be together forever.

Mom is reunited with her sister, Ethel Ann, and her parents. She is survived by her children Kevin (Cathy), Annette, Lisa, Kelly (Lesley), David (Cherril) and Nick; her 9 grandchildren Mindy (Nick), James (Becca), Mallory, Samantha, McLean (currently serving in the Uruguay Montevideo East mission), Elly, Emmye, and Kolton; and her 6 great-grandchildren. There will be a celebration of her life on Friday, October 5, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center located at 2130 E. 10000 S. in Sandy, with a viewing beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy.
