Jan Fredrik Hansen

1930 ~ 2019

Also known as Jan, Jan Fredrik, Dad, Farfar, Morfar, Brother Hansen

Jan Fredrik Hansen, 88, passed away on March 12, 2019, in Lindon, Utah. Jan was born Sept. 11, 1930, to Olav and Inga Hansen, in Bergen, Norway. He had a twin brother, Per Jorgen Hansen. He worked in the Norwegian Merchant Marines at a young age. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 and found his sweetheart, Ethel Deon Duggins. They were married on Nov. 12, 1949 and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 12, 1963. Jan and Deon were blessed with 7 children. Their posterity has grown to include 27 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.

Jan worked as a mill worker and carpenter and always enjoyed woodworking. Jan & Deon loved their home on McClelland Street where they lived for over 60 years. They worked together to fix it up, add on, remodel, and make many happy memories. Jan and Deon gave us a wonderful example of a happy marriage, always supporting and caring for one another. We rejoice in their reunion!

Jan also loved soccer. He played on the Viking team in Salt Lake City for many years and was later inducted into the Utah Soccer Hall of Fame. He was a season ticket holder for the REAL SALT LAKE team since 2005 when the team began. He rarely missed a home game.

Jan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, always serving willingly.

Jan is survived by 2 sons and 5 daughters, Annette (George) Osmond, Wesley (Clara) Hansen, Ted (Linda) Hansen, CindyLou (Wayne) Guymon, Melanie (Dave) Christensen, Jane (Tracey) Hansen, KayLynn (Scott) Blake, 27 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and his beloved brother, Willard Hansen, and sister, Britt Wilde Hanks. Preceded in death by his wife, Deon, just one year ago. Also preceded by his parents, and siblings, Per Hansen, Oddvar Hansen, Gerd Magnesen, and Ruth Olafsson. We are thankful for this wonderful Norwegian family and the heritage and traditions they have shared with us.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Salt Lake Grant Stake building, 3153 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., also at the church. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
