Floyd Andrew Jensen

1945 ~ 2016

Floyd Andrew Jensen died of unknown causes while biking near the Great Salt Lake on July 16, 2016. He was 71 years old. Floyd was born on May 27, 1945 to Mildred Vilate Munk and Reed Howard Jensen. He was born in Albuquerque, NM and grew up in Milwaukee, WI and Portland, Oregon.

He excelled at school and was an avid basketball player at Wilson High. Floyd served a mission for the LDS Church in Frankfurt, Germany and earned a B.A. in psychology from Stanford University. He married Tamaris Miriam Taylor on June 7, 1969. He earned a M.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan, despite being drafted and while in the army. Floyd and Tammy settled in Salt Lake City, UT where Floyd earned his J.D. from the University of Utah in 1975. He worked at Mountain Bell and the law firm of Ray, Quinney and Nebeker.

Floyd was a long-time member of the Garden Park Ward where he served as bishop from 1990 to 1996. He and Tammy served a mission at the University of Utah Institute of Religion. He was a favorite teacher of gospel classes and was an ordinance worker at the Salt Lake Temple. He loved classical music and sang tenor with the Salt Lake Choral Artists. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hiking and biking. His gentle demeanor, deep compassion and witty sense of humor will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife and children, Eric A. Jensen, Gregory T. Jensen, Jonathan A. Jensen, Christina M. Jensen Augustine, and Matthew C. Jensen; brother Donald R. Jensen, sister Karen Jensen; grandchildren Savannah S. Jensen, Grady T. Jensen, Hawa R. Jensen Augustine, Ana X. Jensen Augustine, and Emma M. Jensen.

Funeral services will be held at the Garden Park Ward, 1150 E. Yale Ave., on Saturday July 23rd at 1 p.m. A viewing will be held Friday July 22nd at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S. from 7 to 9 p.m.
