Our dear mother and grandmother, Thea Shirley Ruff Jones, age 85, died peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2017 after a long illness. Shirley was born in Salt Lake City, UT on February 23, 1932 to Emma Elizabeth Porter Ruff and Lyle Calderwood Ruff. Married Benjamin F Jones on October 5, 1951, later divorced. Survived by her five children, Terry Watts (Raymond), Ben Jones (Ingrid), Richard Jones (Nancy), Stephen Todd Jones (Alyson), and LeeAnn Schwemmer (Robert), grandchildren Michael, Ben, Peter, Jessica, Scott, Shirley, Cody, Alex, Emma, Abbi, Ian,nine great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Maxine Record and Dorothy Minson, brother George Ruff and daughter-in-law Cary Jones.
Mom was a gentle person who loved her family. She loved to read, and gave all her children a love of literature. She was a great cook in her younger years, always kept her house spotless, and was a devoted Primary teacher for many years. She was a wonderful listener. She endured many hardships with patience, and will be greatly missed by her loving family.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Larkin Sunset Garden Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT.
