Melvin Hazen Murphy

1938 ~ 2018

Our beloved Father, Melvin Hazen Murphy, age 79, passed away suddenly of a heart attack, March 31, 2018. Born July 31, 1938 to Ida H. and Earl L. Murphy in SLC, Utah. He played football and graduated from East High. Served an LDS Mission in the Southern States Mission, as well as served in the Army Reserves. Sealed to Dixie Croxford White in the Salt Lake Temple; together they had 5 children and later divorced. Married Patricia Mosely and later divorced.

Mel loved telling stories, skiing, fishing, hunting, baseball, fast cars, Pepsi, BYU, and his family. He gave whisker burns, Tootsie Rolls, and lots of laughs. His favorite saying was, "hundred, forty, seven, nine, hut." He was an active member of the LDS Church and held many callings and served as a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The last 8 years he worked in the Salt Lake Temple on the maintenance staff. He LOVED the work and the people at the Temple. He was loved by all!

Survived by Holli (Dave) Christensen, Todd (Marcia) Murphy, Melanie Radeke, Heidi (Jeremy) Paulsen, Wendy (Matt) Redford, Brother Sam (Marcia) Murphy, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Mel is preceded in death by his Mother, Father, Sister Colleen, Brother Mont, and Grandson Tristen.

Services will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden Heights North Ward (2220 E. Fisher Ln., SLC, UT). Friends may call Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary (1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, UT) and Friday at the Garden Heights North Ward at 9:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
