Cleia Schow Barrett

1925 ~ 2013

Cleia Schow Barrett left this earth on Sept. 10, 2013 of causes incident to living a rich, full life. She was

born on Jan 1, 1925 in Escalante, Utah. She and her sister Gaya were the daughters of Lera and Corine

Heaps Schow. She moved to Salt Lake to attend LDS Business College. While working at the state

capitol she met Richard J Barrett while she was on a date with someone else. He stole her heart and she

went to work the next day at the Driver\s License Division and checked to make sure he was older than

she. This was the beginning of a 66 year romance. They lived in Idaho, New York City, where he played

with the 23rd Army Band during the Korean War, Spokane, Arcadia, California, and Bellevue,

Washington. 16 years ago they moved back to Salt Lake. She served in the Primary for close to 65 years.

She was stake Young Women\s and stake Primary President. They helped Vietnamese refugees in

Seattle. They put on many musicals in their Bellevue Stake. We will miss Mom/Grandma, especially her

language of love. (Beach towels or crystal, anyone? A piece of music or a book?) She is survived by her

husband, Richard J Barrett and children Brett (Ruth) Barrett, South Jordan, Colett (Bruce) Judd, of

Ruston, Washington, Kirt (Lynn) Barrett, of Bellevue, Washington, and Suzett (Dan) Taggart of

Edgewood, Washington. Grandmother to 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. A graveside

service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
